1-Sample Sign Test Template in Excel
When to Use the 1-Sample Sign Test
A 1-Sample Sign Test compares values to a median or reference value and determines if the values are greater than (+) or less than (-) the value.
1-Sample Sign Test Example
Imagine that you have eight experimental engines and you want to know if they will run for 30 minutes on a liter of gas. Enter the data and median into QI Macros 1-sample sign test (Statistical Tools-Nonparametric):
The eight run times are in column A. The target median is 30 minutes (D1) and alpha is 0.05 (D5). The template calculates confidence limits (D7:D8) and compares them to the median.
Hypothesis Test Results: In this case, reject the null hypothesis because for alpha = 0.05, the upper limit is 29, not 30 and the p value (0.0078) is less than 0.05.
Where to find the 1-Sample Test in QI Macros Add-in for Excel
Click on QI Macros menu > Stat Templates > Sign Test
NOTE: If p > 0.05 Cannot Reject the Null Hypothesis (Accept the Null Hypothesis).
