Getting People Up to Speed In Lean Six Sigma
How do we get people up to speed in Lean Six Sigma? I have found that the traditional approach leaves a lot to be desired. Here’s how I’ve modified the approach to accelerate learning and application.
“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified” and QI Macros [software].
“You know, ever since I got started in the phone company, we were teaching people for weeks at a time. I kept trying to think, “How can I get these people up to speed so that they really embrace Quality?” It took me a while to start to figure out how to collapse the training and everything using QI Macros to get people trained in one day and up to speed and delivering results. That sounds like heresy, but I’ve done it.
“I have found that if you can get people up to speed quickly, guess what? You get them through that frustration barrier, and Shazam! They can start solving problems. It’s what John [from last week’s video] called “when the light switch comes on.” How do I get people to the point where the light switch comes on as quickly as possible?
“So that’s been my focus. I want the QI Macros to help, and I want my free training to help, and I want all this other stuff to help people get up to speed: flick the light switch and start making improvements. That’s how we get to a hassle-free America, hassle-free healthcare.
“Let’s go out and improve something this week.”
