Start People on the Right Path

Ever noticed that if you start someone on one path, they tend to stay on it even if it was only a starter path? How do you get people started in quality improvement and SPC?

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified” and QI Macros [software].

Be Like the Ocean’s Waves

Ever watched the ocean? Waves just keep coming back again and again, rearranging the coastline. You can too!

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma For Hospitals” and the QI Macros [software].

“My wife and I like to go out to Maui to take vacations because it’s just restful, and we spend time on Ka’anapali Beach. We’ve been there different times of year, and it’s very interesting because at one point in time the waves move the sand southward and they pile up by Black Rock. If Leadership Isn’t Committed to Quality

If your leadership isn’t committed to Quality, you only have one choice and it will be great for your career.

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified”.

“I talk to people very often and they’re frustrated because their leadership team really isn’t committed to quality. What I want you to do is think about what do you do if your leadership team isn’t committed to quality?

“Simple answer: Start improving. Do it anyway, right? Maybe you’re just working inside of your department, you can’t work cross-functionally. Maybe you collect some data that says that somebody who supplies you with stuff is causing you problems.

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified” and QI Macros [software].

“When I first got into Quality Improvement I had some great training, and then started trying to do some projects. Man, I don’t know… I struggled for probably… it was almost 18 months before I actually… One day there was an issue that we were having around false fire alarms (which were being caused by cell phones; we didn’t know that).

Singapore’s K-12 Education for Quality

Singapore is teaching children from grade school through high school quality improvement techniques and how to use control charts, Pareto charts, histograms and fishbone diagrams. Here’s what that means for quality:

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified” and QI Macros [software].

“This last week I was out in Anaheim for the American Society For Quality’s ASQ World Conference On Quality Improvement. We were exhibiting the QI Macros at the booth, and one guy came by and he was from Singapore. We got to talking and we found out that – guess what?
