Your Business Is Not Unique or Different
People like to pretend their business is different or unique. They use it as an excuse to avoid Lean Six Sigma. You are not unique. Here’s why:
Download my free ebook, Agile Process Innovation-Hacking Lean Six Sigma for Results.
“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma For Hospitals” and QI Macros [software].
“Over the years, whenever I talk to people about Lean and Six Sigma or whatever, they very often say, “Oh, we’re not in manufacturing.” This is what is known as ‘uniqueness bias.’ Everybody thinks their business is different from everyone else’s. The thing going through your business may be, but you still do orders, invoicing, purchasing, payments, sales, marketing… you still do all the same stuff. The thing you produce, whether it’s patients or pistons, is different, but everything else is not that different. Okay?
“People use this as an excuse to avoid learning how to do Quality Improvement because it might be too hard. No, it’s not. That’s just not true anymore, right? You can do it quickly. You can learn from my website. I have a free Yellow Belt training out there. And you can go learn how to do Quality Improvement very quickly and effectively, and with QI Macros you can make it super, super easy.
“That’s my Improvement Insight. Stop pretending you’re different in special ways. No, you’re not. Your thing’s different. Your business is not. Let’s go out and improve something this week.”
