Do You Hate Math and Statistics?

Over half the population hates math and statistics. How do we help them embrace the tools of quality?

“Hi, I’m Jay Arthur, author of “Lean Six Sigma Demystified” and QI Macros [software].

“Do you love math and statistics? Maybe not. Half the population does not like math and statistics. That’s one of the reasons I created QI Macros: to automate all that math and statistics so they don’t need to know that. They just get charts or graphs or analysis, right? I don’t want people frustrated by math and statistics. I want them to start drawing charts.

“When I used to do in-person live trainings, I could tell. I’d start doing examples, having people use QI Macros to draw charts and things. I knew they’d gotten it when they started downloading data from their servers and started to run QI Macros on their data. And even people in the room who didn’t know what they were doing, they’d get a little help from the person next to them and they’d start drawing charts, and then they’d go get their data and then they’d start drawing stuff.

“You know, I don’t think you have to know all of the formulas and math and “happy hoo-ha” behind what makes this so powerful and useful. You only need to know how to use QI Macros to select some data, click a button, get a chart, get a stat, and then analyze it. And that stuff ain’t that hard. It’s pretty simple.

“That’s my Improvement Insight. Let’s go out and improve something this week. Let’s make life simple for everyone that’s using Quality Improvement.”
