“I’m here at the American Nursing Association’s Magnet conference in Atlanta 2025. It’s October, and once again I went through all of the posters; 90% of the charts are line, bar, and pie charts. I consider these to be the “Three Stooges” of charts. There’s no way that you’re going to get to “zero harm” or “hassle-free healthcare” with those three charts.
“Now, one of the things that happened is a lot of people kept coming up [to our booth] and saying, “God, I wish I’d have known about you guys when I took my Director of Nursing [courses], my Master’s in Nursing [courses], or my [Lean Six Sigma] Black Belt or my Green Belt or my whatever.” Guess what? It would really help a lot of these folks to learn how to use these tools while they’re still in college. We even offer discounts for students.
“So, that’s my Improvement Insight. You know, let’s start using the Tools of Quality to master how we do things, because otherwise we’re not going to get to hassle-free healthcare in my lifetime.”
