When asked how he came up with these nuggets of wisdom, he replied: &#8220;I use simplexity.&#8221; What&#8217;s simplexity and how can we use it in quality improvement?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/869209822?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&#8220;Hi, I&#8217;m Jay Arthur, author of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qimacros.com\/pdf\/Agile-Process-Innovation.pdf\">Agile Process Innovation<\/a>&#8221; as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qimacros.com\/demo\/\">QI Macros [software]<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;A friend of mine and I went to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/XGvXOjD6zQ8?si=xzU_pdbz85AI-Ukj\">Yogi Berra movie<\/a> and it was all about Yogi. He won like [10] World Series rings and\u2026 what a guy, right? But he was always known for \u2018Yogi-isms,\u2019 right? One of his Yogi-isms was: \u201cIf they don&#8217;t want to come out to the park, how are you going to stop them?\u201d I always think about that with Quality: If they don&#8217;t want to use Quality Improvement, how are you going to stop them?<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;When asked how he came up with these Yogi-isms he said, \u201cWell, I use simplexity,\u201d When he said it in this movie I thought, \u201cI&#8217;ve never heard him say that before: simplexity.\u201d Well, what is simplexity? It&#8217;s complexity reduced to the simple. Almost everybody, when they hear a Yogi-ism, they [think] \u201cOh I get it.\u201d That&#8217;s simplexity.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;I believe in Quality Improvement we spent too much time making things complex and giving them deep, rich names like \u2018Six Sigma,\u2019 right? Oh my gosh. \u2018Statistical process control,\u2019 right? We&#8217;ve made it so that people just lose interest instantly, and I think that&#8217;s sad.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;So my question for you: How can we start to use simplexity in all of our communications about Quality Improvement so that everybody can [think,] \u201cOh, that doesn&#8217;t sound too hard. Let&#8217;s get into it.\u201d Again, in in my book &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qimacros.com\/pdf\/Agile-Process-Innovation.pdf\">Agile Process Innovation<\/a>&#8221; I start to explain how we could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qimacros.com\/lean-six-sigma-blog\/hacking-lean-six-sigma-training\/\">hack Lean and Six Sigma to get results in a day or two<\/a>. Not weeks, months, years and however long everybody else says it takes. Nope. No. Stop doing that. I&#8217;m again&#8217; it.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;So that&#8217;s my Improvement Insight for this week: Embrace simplexity. Let&#8217;s create a hassle-free America; hassle-free healthcare.
