But statisticians have been raising alarm about the problems with p values. Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s going on:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/808354208?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&#8220;Hi, I&#8217;m Jay Arthur, author of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Lean-Six-Sigma-Hospitals-Improving\/dp\/1259641082\/\">Lean Six Sigma For Hospitals<\/a>\u201d and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qimacros.com\/demo\/\">QI Macros [software]<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;I get these emails about different courses that are being offered (I think one on Coursera) but it was one on statistics and it was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coursera.org\/learn\/probability-statistics\">To P or Not to P<\/a>\u00a0That is the Question.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;Have you been watching anything in the statistics world? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4858512\/\">Statisticians think that P values can be misleading and potentially dangerous<\/a>. You need to look at more things than just your p value. Is it above 0.05 or below 0.05? There are times when 0.20 would be really good in terms of things that you&#8217;re trying to do, like get more traffic to your website or something.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;This is one of those things that&#8217;s pretty funny, but there&#8217;s been a lot of argument, I think, in the statistical community that p values are dangerous and you need to factor in other thoughts, not just salute the p value and go on your merry way. I&#8217;ll let you go research that online, but p values are good and&#8230; can be dangerous.<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;To p or not to p, that is the question. That&#8217;s my Improvement Insight for this week.
