Histograms Plot Variation

Histograms show the spread or variation of data like piston diameters on an assembly line or wait times at a fast food restaurant.

Histograms drawn with Excel alone, don't show the bell-shaped curve or calculate any statistics about process performance.

A histogram drawn using the QI Macros SPC Software for Excel, on the other hand, uses this data plus the upper and lower specification limits (USL/LSL) to determine how well the process delivers on customer requirements.

Why Use a Histogram Chart?

Use a histogram to determine the capability (i.e., the level of performance the customers can consistently expect from the process).

In the histogram graph, bars below the LSL or above the USL indicate that the process isn't always delivering the customer's requirements.
