Make a Histogram in ExcelIt is possible to make a histogram in Excel, but there are a number of steps: 1) install the Analysis Toolpak, 2) click on Tools-Data Analysis-Histogram, 3) figure out how to determine the number of bins. 4)choose the options for your analysis (bins, charts, etc.).
Using 125 data points, you'll get something that looks like this:
Excel will not, however, calculate the necessary statistics to determine process capability (e.g., Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk). If you make a histogram in Excel using the QI Macros, it will perform process capabiliy analysis and calculate Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk and more. It also allows you to input one or two-sided specification limits (USL, LSL). Just select your data and click on the QI Macros Menu and choose Histogram. Using the data above, here's the QI Macros histogram:
Calculations included in the QI Macros histogram made in Excel- Mean, Median, Mode, Cp, Cpk, Pp, Ppk, Cpm, Stnd Dev, Max, Min, Z bench, Cpk Upper, Cpk Lower, Z target, % defects, PPM, Expected, Normal Distribution curve For more information on the formulas used in our histogram see the QI Macros formulas page.
Histograms are just one of the tools included in the QI Macros for Excel SPC Software for Excel.
