Line Graphs show behavior of a process over time. It is the first step in defining a problem to be solved.

Line graphs can show cycle time, defects or cost over time.

If you add a line showing the average to the line graph, you have a Run chart.

If you add upper and lower control limits and 1- and 2-sigma lines to your line graph, you have a control chart. A control chart will help you perform stability analysis on your data to identify potential problems and trends.
