The purpose of a g chart is to track events that happen so rarely standard control charts are not effective. The g chart is also known as the geometric means chart.

There a two g chart templates in the QI Macros:

Time or units between g chart template which calculates the time or units between events
Missed vs met g chart template which calculates the period (day/week/month) between events

Time or Units Between g chart template

To measure time between rare events (e.g., days between wrong site surgeries), input the date and time of each event in column A, the g chart template will calculate the time between events in column B and plot in on the chart.

To measure units between events, simply input the units between events in column B and the template will plot them on the chart.

Missed vs Met g chart template

In the yellow input area, track each period (day/week/month) where you met or missed an objective (e.g., no accidents). The template will calculate the number of days met/missed and the control limits. On any given day, the business either:

Met the objective (no accidents)
Missed the objective (accident)
No data (forgot to track the information)
