What is a Process or Quality Control Chart?Statistical process control charts are line graphs that show how a process performs over time. Is it predictable or "out of control"? How much variation is there? Are there any special causes of variation (e.g., the point above the upper control limit shown below)? Here is an example of a quality control chart created using the QI Macros Software for Excel. Unstable points and trends in this control chart are highlighted in red:
Control Chart Control Limit LinesThe average and sigma lines (1, 2, and 3 sigma) of a process or quality control chart are calculated from the data. The Upper Control Limit (UCL) is the + 3 sigma line and the Lower Control Limit (LCL) is the - 3 sigma line. 99.7% of all data points will fall between these two limits.
All of the variable and attribute control charts with stability analysis are included in the QI Macros SPC Software for Excel.
