Costly Battery Recall at Dell
Dell recalled 4.1 million batteries for laptops built between April Fool's Day 2004 and July 18, 2006. While known for their quality, it seems that crimping of metal strips in Sony's production of the Lithium batteries left tiny shards of metal in the battery that can cause it to short and overheat.Estimated cost of this recall: $200-400 million. Ouch!
Kudos to Dell and Sony for admitting the problem and stepping up to its resolution.
While quality may not be totally free, as Phil Crosby once said, the cost of poor quality can be brutal.
