Thank you for your interest in the QI Macros for Excel. Our goal is for the QI Macros to be the most valued part of your Lean Six Sigma, TQM or process improvement toolkit.

Make a Backup Copy if You Selected Download Only

If you just purchased the QI Macros and selected download only, please backup your setup file to a CD immediately. After 30 days, there is a $25 charge for replacing lost files. We cannot replace your file after it is over 12 months old.

Installation Tips

For PC Users

1. The QI Macros are compatible with Excel 97-2007.
2. Close Excel to enable the installation wizard to run correctly (especially if you have previously installed the 30 Day Evaluation copy.)
3. Double click on the QI Macros setup.exe to run the installation wizard.
4. This will install:
   • The QI Macros and Templates in Excel's XLSTART folder at C:Program Files:Microsoft Office:Office(10, 11, 12):XLStart
   • Test data for each of the QI Macros in C:/qimacros/testdata
5. Make a note of where the QI Macros and test data are installed on your PC.
6. Once the installation is complete, open Excel.
7. You should see the QI Macros on the top right portion of Excel's menu bar.

Excel 2003 and previous versions:

Excel 2007

1. If the installation wizard ran correctly but you don't see the QI Macros pull down menu, Excel may have disabled the macro file.

A. Click on HELP-ABOUT EXCEL.
B. Click on Disabled Items.
C. Enable qimacros.xla, qimacros.xlm, zqimenu.xlm, or any other macro.

For MAC Users

1. The QI Macros are compatible with OS 8, 9 X
2. The Macintosh Installation Files folder contains a folder titled "Excel Startup Folder"
3. Copy the qimacros.xla file and the QITemplates folder in the "Excel Startup Folder" to one of the following folders on your Mac (Hint: do not copy the folder, just the files it contains).
   • For Excel 5.0, the macros should be installed in:
     System Folder : Preferences : Excel Startup Folder.
   • For Excel 98, 2001, X, 2004 they should be installed in:
     Applications : Microsoft Office : Office : Startup : Excel
4. Note regarding Excel 2008 (applies to Mac users only). Excel 2008 does not support macros, therefore only the fill in the blanks templates will work.

For a Network

1. Load the QI Macros on a network server
2. Open Excel and select Tools/Options/General
3. Type the network server location for the QI Macros in the Alternate Startup file location box (e.g., h:/qimacros/xlstart)
4. Note: you need to buy one license for every user who has access to the QI Macros via the network.

You have successfully installed the QI Macros when you see the QI Macros on your Excel menu.

QI Macros License and Copyright Info

The QI Macros is a single user license, which means you need to purchase one license for every user.

The QI Macros is owned by KnowWare International Inc. (dba Lifestar) and is protected by U.S. Copywright laws. Any enhancements added to the existing macros are considered the property of Lifestar. You may not copy, rent, or lease the QI Macros or the documentation accompanying it.

You can change the default language used on the pull down menu and download user guides and help files in various languages.

Technical Support Page

The QI Macros will draw all of the charts and graphs needed for Lean Six Sigma. However, the software will not teach you Lean Six Sigma, TQM or SPC. If more help is required to understand these areas or the specific charts and tools, we offer the following products and services.
