The
Gen Table Macro
If your data
is coming off of a gage or from MS Access or some other database in
one long column, you may need to re-format it to run a chart. We have
built a macro to make this process simple and easy.
The data
below represents 5 samples taken every two hours. We want to run an
XbarR chart, but the data needs to be re-formatted first.
The QI Macros
gen table macro can re-format your data into columns and rows.
- First
select your data (don't select any of the labels).
- Next press
these 3 keys (ctrl shift g) at the same time.
- The gen
table macro will ask you for the sample size. This is equal to the
number of columns you want to organize your data into. In this case
we will input "5" because we took five samples every two
hours.
Select OK and the gen table macro will run. The result is as follows:
We can then
select our data to run an XbarR chart.
Try it yourself
with this sample data gentabledata. The
spreadsheet has one column of 80 data points. Select the 80 points and
organize them into 16 rows and 5 columns by selecting a sample size
of 5. Your result should look like this:
You can also
do the reverse by selecting a table like the one above and turn it into
one column of data by selecting a sample size of one.
That is all
there is to the gen table macro - just remember ctrl shift g.
